And Jesus was a sailor

When he walked upon the water

And he spent a long time watching

From his lonely wooden tower

And when he knew for certain

Only drowning men could see him

He said “All men will be sailors then

Until the sea shall free them”

But he himself was broken

Long before the sky would open

Forsaken, almost human

He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone

(To let you in on a secret, this was the large above the stage.  I zoomed and enlarged it, then added some special effects. Leonard Cohen was so humble and he gave everything he had.)

Leonard Cohen, rest in peace

  1. That is a truly great photo Bruce, one of the best I’ve seen. And it goes well with ‘Suzanne’. A great artiste and we ought not to be sad at his passing but grateful for what he gave us.

    • Angela, his concert in 2010 was the best Fran and I ever saw, and he played for 3 and 1/2 hours. It was like a religious experience, his music, his humble comments about the soul of our humanity and the world. As you know, Fran and I don’t like crowds, but with Leonard Cohen – this was something so special. I once saw him by myself in the early 90’s and it was good… but not like as when he was an elder statesman. It was if he had been transfigured, into the finest wine, the best of what humanity could offer or be, and he made the us feel this too.
