TO VALUE THE COSMOS WE HAVE TO VALUE OURSELVES
from The Heart of Creation ~ by John Main
We have to go beyond the surface of things. We cannot live our lives by always encountering reality on a two dimensional level. The Tao Te Ching expresses it like this:
The truly great person dwells on what is real and not on what is on the surface.
It is, I think, a general law of the human condition that in order to understand the universe we must understand ourselves. In order to value the cosmos, we have to learn to value ourselves.
It is only when we understand and value ourselves that we can transcend ourselves, rise above ourselves; in the words of Jesus, ‘leave ourselves behind’. ~ John Main
